New inflation study sponsored by elmannuity.com uses historical inflation data to show that inflation during retirement may be far higher that the 3% assumed by many. In almost half the retirement periods examined, inflation actually ran above 4%. Using this historical data, the study suggests that an inflation-protected income annuity may offer better relative value than a traditional fixed income annuity, after reflecting the effects of taxes.
